IRN denotes the European Union's restrictive measures concerning Iran. Council Regulation (EU) No 267/2012 of 23 March 2012, which replaced Regulation (EU) No 961/2010, anchors the non-proliferation strand rooted in United Nations Security Council resolutions on Iran's nuclear programme, while Council Regulation (EU) No 359/2011 of 12 April 2011 targets those responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran. Together they provide asset freezes, prohibitions on making funds available and sectoral restrictions.
